TOJ Welcomes Board President Susan Lieu as Interim Executive Director

On June 30th, Pamala Mijatov transitioned from her role as Theatre Off Jackson Executive Director to spend time with family. For the past 18 months, Pamala has been dedicated to the mission of Theatre Off Jackson and we are grateful for her many contributions.

During her time as Executive Director, she has been dedicated to our mission of being a hub for diverse and affordable performances, cultivating theatre, community, and creativity in the International District.  Some key highlights we want to acknowledge:

  • She has guided the organization with the Allen Family Foundation Grant focused on renovating the Upstairs for expanded show capacity and office space for resident companies.
  • She helped execute an incredibly successful season with our four resident companies producing magical experiences for thousands of audience members.

Effective immediately, the Board of Directors has appointed current Board President Susan Lieu to become the Interim Executive Director to oversee operational excellence and sustainability, fundraising, community building, and ensure that we continue to serve as an affordable hub for the theatre community. A former co-producer, consultant, and volunteer, Susan has been involved in the TOJ community since 2019. Additionally, the Board will initiate a search process to identify Theatre Off Jackson’s next Executive Director in late 2025. Susan will step in to guide the organization through this important transition, engaging staff, board, and our community to keep the important work of Theatre Off Jackson moving forward.

TOJ Co-founder and former Executive Director Patti West shares that “Pamala’s passion for the theatre community cannot be understated. We are grateful for her contributions and wish her all the best. I feel confident with Susan Lieu at the helm to guide us into Theatre Off Jackson’s next ‘act.’ For the past six years, she has been incredibly invested in the TOJ community. If it’s anything like her one-woman show, her consulting work for us in the past, or her time as Board President, we are guaranteed to be delighted.”
